FARM HERITAGE: Deadline Approaching For State Award

If your family has lived on your farm for over 100 or 150 years you’re entitled to state recognition. The deadline to apply for the 2013 Century and Heritage Farm Program is June 1st.

“The deadline for families with a Century or Heritage applications is quickly approaching and I hope those with an eligible farm will take the time to apply,” Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey said. “This program is a great way to highlight the deep history and strong heritage of agriculture in our state.”

The ceremony to recognize the 2013 Century and Heritage Farms will be held at the Iowa State Fair and is scheduled for Tuesday, August 13th.

RECYCLING CHALLENGE: Families Could Win iPad

Families keen on improving their recycling habits could be in with a chance of winning an iPad.

The Family Recycling Challenge is a 12 week contest for three families in each participating community and is run by Metro Waste Authority.

As part of the scheme, families will attend a celebratory dinner, be part of Curb It! Recycling program and share what they’ve learned with others.

If your family is interested in participating in The Family Recycling Challenge, complete the application by April 26th.

FAMILIES WANTED: Non-Profit Helping International Students

As a county built from migration, the US still has plenty to offer for young students from around the world wishing to improve their English skills and immerse themselves in a different culture.

A nonprofit in the metro is looking for potential host families to help these students.
